Sonakshi Gupta

Media and journalism postgraduate focused on investigative journalism, policy research and content creation.

Sonakshi Gupta is a Board Member of Institute for Research in Education and Social Transformation (IREST). She hails from Karimganj, Assam. Sonakshi is a media and journalism postgraduate with a strong academic background and practical experience in investigative journalism, policy research, and content creation. Her work primarily engages with questions of media, governance, political communication, and social transformation, with a particular focus on storytelling that highlights contemporary social and political realities. Sonakshi has worked with organizations and media platforms including the Sentinel, Dais World, and the Federation of International Trade Investor Gunodaya Association, where she has contributed articles, long-form analysis, and research-based content across themes such as politics, social issues, governance, and public discourse. She has developed strong skills in data interpretation, editorial writing, analytical research, and digital content production.

Sonakshi has completed her Master’s degree in Media Governance from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, where she was awarded the Gold Medal for Academic Excellence. She previously completed her Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Assam Don Bosco University with a Gold Medal for Academic Excellence. Sonakshi has co-authored research paper titled “Community Radio as a Medium to Resist Hegemonic Discourse,” which was presented at a national conference and later published in an edited academic volume. Her academic interests include media policy, critical communication studies, misinformation, and alternative media practices. Sonakshi is responsible for communications and social media activities at IREST.
